Maritime Ministries International, Inc is a non-profit organization founded in 1981 with the goal of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Maritime Community worldwide. Since its inception people from more than fifty (50) nations have come into a saving relationship with the Lord Jesus through the Gospel. Some mariners who became disciples of the Christ returned to their home countries and initiated ministry among their own people. Through cooperation with churches in the United States churches have been built and many lives have been changed internationally.
Because the maritime community comprises such a large portion of the world's population (about 40%) opportunities for the Gospel of Jesus Christ abound. A church or churches in a major port city, with an outreach to mariners, can literally reach around the world. And since English is the international trade language, it is widely used among mariners, facilitating ministry among them.
